Well, as far as I know... it seems to be all finished.
But I have not heard anything yet or found anything about when it will be airing on A&E.
I am super excited about it, though.

Yeah, at least "spring" is something concrete and a lot better than just "sometime in 2008."
I can't wait... (I saw part of it already, though--second half of part one--... sneaky me).
It looks SUPER good.. but seems to deviate a bit from the original novel. But all the changes I saw in the brief part I saw, were mainly for updating it to modern times.

Ahh.. now it says it's premiering on May 25th.
I've seen a few commercials on A&E, and I'm super excited, lol.

Dang it. I set this thing to record, and it didn't. How was it?

You can rent or buy it on DVD if you like, but I wouldn't bother myself.
I wanted to like this mini-series. But wanting to like it isn’t the same as liking it. I expected better from something with Ridley Scott's name attached to it. Now that I’m reading the novel again, I’m reminded how good the 1971 film was. I think this was a missed opportunity. The original film had a focus that this version lacked. They could have dug deeper with what we know about science now, but instead they opted for numerous distracting storylines and blowing things up.
Many times a mini-series can be better than the original, because it has the time to explore more details from the book. The mini-series of Stephen King’s The Shining was better and truer to the book than the Stanley Kubrick film. The same can also be said of the mini-series of East of Eden starring Jane Seymour, and the one of Jane Eyre starring Timothy Dalton. The Andromeda Strain could have been a very intelligent and exciting exploration of the novel. Instead they went for special effects, strange and irrational tangents, and an obvious political agenda. What were they thinking? I really have to ask.
I wonder if the creators of this version of The Andromeda Strain wanted to twist Crichton’s story into an environmental cautionary tale in part to get back at him for his skeptical views on climate change.
So far the only people who seem to have really liked this version are those who have not read the book or seen the 1971 film. I think when you’ve had steak, it’s very tough to settle for hamburger. At least this will inspire people to read Crichton’s novel and hopefully, discover his other books as well.

I enjoyed this new version, and I have, obviously, read the book.
Yes, I know there are differences, but I believe most of them were in order to update the storyline for the 21st century. So I could deal with some of the scientists being female and adding in the reporter and all that stuff.
I thought it was wonderfully supsenseful and thrilling just like Crichton's novels, even though I know the ending.
SPOILERS:
However, I did have a bit of a problem with the last part of the miniseries movie. I felt the ending was almost an afterthought. Like, let's quick kill off some people, it's almost done. Also the fact that they had to kill off Andromeda with some kind of bacterial weapon, when in the novel, if I remember right, Andromeda just evolves to nonlethal form.
All in all though, I thoroughly enjoyed it, especially the first 3/4 of it.

There was a female scientist in the 1971 film. Have you seen that yet?
I once described this version (which I think of as Andromeda Strained) as The Andromeda Strain meets Sphere meets Prey meets State of Fear. But a reviewer for Empire magazine put it better, calling this version "Crichton karaoke".
To each his own. Everybody can watch their favorite versions of The Andromeda Strain.
I really expected something better with Ridley Scott's name attached, but he was just an executive producer, meaning he put some money into it, but didn't participate in the production.
Crichton would cringe at this version, but I've read that he makes it a point not to see any film based on his books that he didn't have any input on. He said he never saw Jurassic Park 3 and doesn't plan to see it. So he's probably mercifully ignorant of how Andromeda Strained turned out.

It's out on DVD and there's an interview with Michael Crichton from 2001 in the special features.
